I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology/Pre-med at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I then attended the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse for my Medical Degree. I did 4 years of pediatric residency with 2 years at the University of Wisconsin, a senior resident year at Case-Western Reserve in Cleveland, and then a year as Chief Resident back at the University of Wisconsin. I also earned an MS degree in Administrative Medicine at the University of Wisconsin and was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the General Pediatric and Teenage Clinic at Wisconsin. I have permanent board certification in Pediatrics and re-certified in Pediatrics in 2010. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives.
After an early start in primary care pediatrics, I undertook a 25 year journey through the administrative maze known as the U.S. healthcare system. After working as a hospital medical director and health care consultant in the U.S. and Europe, I have seen both the strengths and weaknesses of our system relative to other countries, and the real life challenges faced by parents, children and healthcare providers. I decided to return to my roots as a pediatrician in the hope of making some small contribution to improving children's health in Santa Cruz. My grandchildren, both patients at Capitola Pediatrics, seem to think this is a great idea!
